In short
PianoRoute is a free route through learning the piano. It links to lessons, scores and videos that other people publish; it does not host them. You can browse everything without an account. If you sign in, PianoRoute keeps your plan and your progress so you can come back to them, and nothing else is done with it. You can delete your account and that data at any time.
When you browse without an account
- No advertising, no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics scripts. Page visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies.
- The level check and the plan preview run in your browser. Your answers stay in your browser's storage until you choose to save a plan.
- If you report a broken link, PianoRoute stores the report with a salted, one-way hash of your IP address, only to stop the same person filing the same report many times.
- On video resource pages, the preview image comes from YouTube's image server, which sees your IP address. The video itself, with YouTube's scripts, loads only when you press play, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
When you sign in
Sign-in uses your Google account. PianoRoute receives and keeps:
- Your name, email address and profile picture from Google, the id that links your account to Google, and that you confirmed you are 16 or older. Google's access tokens are not kept.
- A session cookie that keeps you signed in. It is needed for the site to work and is removed when you sign out.
- Your plan: your answers to the plan questions, your level, your weekly practice settings, pauses and check-ins.
- Your learning record: what you mark as learning, learned or known, milestones you tick, practice you log, time estimates you change, feedback on plan items, and your style preferences.
- Pieces you add to your plan yourself, including any note and the "From my teacher" marker. These are private.
- Resources you save, feedback you send and links you suggest.
This data is used only to run PianoRoute for you: to build your plan and show your progress. It is not sold, shared for advertising, or used to train AI models.
Suggestions and the AI that sorts them
When you suggest a link, its public page title and description, and the note you add, are sent to an AI model that suggests a level and category for curators to check. For a piece you suggest from your plan, the title and composer you typed are sent instead of a note; your own note on the piece and the teacher marker are never sent. Your name and email are never sent. Curators see the note when they review the suggestion. If a suggestion is added, the link appears in the public catalog; your note does not.
Who processes data for PianoRoute
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database and counts page visits.
- Google handles sign-in.
- AI providers configured by the curators (Cloudflare Workers AI, and possibly Anthropic or others) classify discovered and suggested resources. They receive public resource details and suggestion notes, never account data.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account on your account page. That removes, at once and for good, your account, every session, your plans and your whole learning record, your own pieces and your saved resources. Feedback you sent and links you suggested are kept without your name, as from an anonymous user, because curators may still be working on them.
